Supported by DRISHTI CPS under the DISHA Program, Bhoodhristi Private Limited, is developing VoluScan, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) solution for real-time volumetric analysis of raw materials in industrial environments. It is an innovative tool that digitizes and automates stockpile measurement with advanced drone-based systems.
In India, the industries rely on manual processes for stockpile analysis, which are inefficient and costly in terms of labour. The lack of automated, cost-effective technologies for volumetric analysis of industrial raw materials builds challenges for industrialists in diverse environments. VolScan addresses these challenges with a drone-based system integrating LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging technique) and optical cameras for precise, scalable and volumetric analysis. The system combines high-accuracy LiDAR scanning with computer vision-based segmentation and AI-driven depth estimation. It supports both real-time analysis and low-cost deployments using only optical sensors.
This technology offers an affordable, easy-to-deploy in-house volumetric drone system with a modular design. With the support of DRISHTI CPS, the founding team at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kurnool, has developed a prototype named OASIS (Online Aerial Image-based Surface Information System), an automatic, computer vision–based surveillance platform. Alongside this, the team is also building a LiDAR-equipped drone for advanced volumetric analysis. Strengthening its industry linkages, the startup has partnered with Vizag Steel Plant, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., Visakhapatnam, to deliver customized drones for precise volumetric assessment of their stockpiles.
